Camping in Topaz!

Our latest adventure was a trip out to Topaz Mountain! My family has been going every year since I was a kid, and this year Todd got to tag along!

It was great to be outdoors in the dirt, although by the time Sunday rolled around, all of us were ready for a nice hot shower!

My Uncle Brian couldn't help making a rocket that is taller that Todd. When we launched it, it just kept going up, and up, and up, and up. Honestly, I can't remember if we found it again.. I think we did! ha ha

We also did some hiking around to find Topaz!

This is our loot. We did pretty good!

Target Shooting is also a main event of our trip. We spend a lot of time practicing our shooting skills. (Mine are a little rough.)

Prior to this trip, my uncle came up with the idea of making a potato cannon. He bought the supplies and put my brother in charge of making it. For being such a little cannon, it sure did pack a punch! We had potatoes launching about 100 yards!

We also managed to do a little off-roading! Nothing extreme but it sure was fun! The Liberty held true to its "trail rated" name!

On the way out to Topaz Mountain, we spotted some sand dunes on the side of the road. So, on the way back to St. George, we decided to stop and check them out!

We made sand angels!

If you haven't been out to Topaz, I highly suggest you go! Its a ton of fun!

Funerals, Family Reunions, and Aquariums.

Todd and I ventured up north this weekend to say goodbye to Grandpa Ford. Grandpa Ford was such a great man. I, being new to the family, didn't have the opportunity of getting to know grandpa very well, I loved him as my grandpa the minute I met him as if I'd known him my whole life. He radiated so much kindness and love it was just so nice to be with him. I wish I'd had the chance to come to know Henry Ford better, but i know we'll be great friends when we see each other in heaven some day. We love you grandpa! :)

Along with spending the day with the Ford side of the family, I also had the pleasure of going to the all famous Miller Family Reunion. ...WOW. I thought my family was big until I met this bunch. They are crazy and so much fun! I'm pretty sure its going to take me months if not years to learn everyone's names and even then I'll probably get people mixed up, but I'm so excited to get to know everyone! I guess the next time I'm going to see everyone will be the 4th of July and I'm told that that will be an even bigger adventure. :)

While we were up north, we also decided to go to the Living Planet Aquarium because they have a new penguin exhibit and my mom decided to tag along! If you know me well, you know that I LOVE penguins! They are by far my most favorite animal (besides the pebble toad.. ha ha). The aquarium was small but it had some pretty cool exhibits! Plus, there was a play ground that Todd and I just couldn't resist..

The penguins were adorable and so active! Ya know when you go to a zoo, and the animals just sit there and don't do anything? Kinda like they are bored with their life? Well, its not like that at the aquarium (at least with the penguins.. some of the fish were quite lame..) The penguins were swimming around and splashing in the water. It was so so cute! I instantly turned into an overly excited four year old when I saw them. The penguin exhibit just opened on march 26th so there were a ton of people there but it was worth fighting the crowds (at least I thought so).

Overall, its been a good weekend. We've celebrated the wonderful life of grandpa Henry and we were able to spend quality time with family. :) Now.. its back to school..

Mothers Weekend :)

A couple weekends ago it was Mothers Weekend at Dixie State! My adorable mother came down and stayed with Todd and I so we could play! On Friday night, we went to the Multicultural Diversity Extravaganza! It was a lot of fun! Different people from different cultures performed dances from their culture! After, we went to Krave (a local frozen yogurt shop) with my two old roommates Clare and Chianne and their mothers.

On Saturday, we went to workshops that were held on campus. There was a hair workshop where the Paul Mitchell hair school came and taught us cool ways to do our hair. I decided to be a model and let someone do my hair and this is was the result. ---> Its hard to see but they called it a "mohawk"...

Then there was a skin care workshop where the skin institute came and taught us how to take care of your skin (kinda boring). They did, however, tell us to shave our faces. Weird right?! I guess it gives your skin a nice "glow" and cleans out your pores. I have to admit I've been too afraid to try it.. ha ha

Then there was a fruit carving workshop! Now this one by far was my favorite! We learned how to carve wales out of water melons and swans out of apples! It was so neat! Seriously though.. don't ask me to make a whale out of a water melon.. I assure you it would be utterly disastrous.

Mothers weekend was a very fun weekend! Todd made my mother dinner on Saturday night too! He made Chicken Scallopini! Yummmm! Its my favorite dish! Mama, of course, loved it too!

It was so fun to have mama come visit! We had some good quality girl time while poor Todd slaved away at work (although I'm pretty sure he was happy being there instead of with a bunch of women). Thanks for a great weekend mama! :)

My unpredictable health.

I like to think I lead a pretty healthy lifestyle. The only thing not going for me is a disease I have that affects my legs. Honestly, its not a huge deal its just one of the struggles I deal with. Basically, I have nerve damage from my toes to my hips (or somewhere around there). How it happened you ask? Well I'll tell you. One night in December of 2007, my face, arms and legs suddenly started to go numb. I had been feeling like i was getting a cold during that day but it hadn't really amounted to much. The next day I went to an Insta-care clinic and they couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. At first they thought I was having a stroke, but they ruled that out. The doctors there said they they could do nothing for me and referred me to a neurologist. The only problem was that they couldn't get me into the neurologist for a couple of weeks. They sent me home and told me that if anything changed to go straight to the ER.

I went home, and later that night my legs went more numb. So my parents took me into the ER hoping to get some answers. After eight or nine hours of blood tests, and MRI's, I was sent home with no more knowledge then what I came in with. I was numb, scared and confused. The hospital had called a neurologist and made me an appointment for the day after Christmas.
To end the story, I went to the neurologist and he established that it COULD be a disease called Guillain-barre. Its an auto-immune disease where my body made anti-bodies to fight off a cold/infection and my antibodies ended up attacking my nerves cause nerve damage. The thing is, I have a lot of symptoms that fit with Guillain-barre but I also have many that don't. Guillian-barre is the only explanation any doctor has been able to find.
There is no treatment for what I have. There was a medication they put me on to help with the nerve pain but I had bad reactions to it so I am unable to take it. I have yet to find a pain medication that stops the pain. I do, however, get vitamin B12 shots. They help with repairing the nerve damage and will hopefully help my healing process to be a little bit quicker.

My legs are still numb for the most part. The only symptoms I really live with now are pain and numbness. It doesn't make sense to have numbness and pain together, but its true. I have loss of sensation in my legs. I can walk but rarely feel when I step on things, or run into things (which is sometimes a plus). The worst part of this whole thing is the pain. Its indescribable. I remember the only way I could think of describing the pain to doctors would be that "it feels like my legs are stuck in a meat grinder." Morbid I know. The pain is deep, sharp, annoying and frustrating. I live in constant pain, but then again I'm to the point where pain is normal. At times, I have bad days or bad weeks where the pain becomes worse. Today is one of those days. The pain can flare up at any moment for no apparent reason. I always tell people its like hiking. I'll get to a point where is seems like I'm climbing up away from my illness and its almost like I don't have one. Then, I suddenly fall back down and I remember I'm sick.

Back in high school when I got sick, i developed this fear that nobody would ever marry me because of this little illness. Silly I know, but it really was a thought that was always in the back of my mind. Lucky for me, I found the most patient, and loving person in this entire world who completely looked past my illness and loved and supported me through every moment. He's one of the few who can see through me when I try hide the fact that I'm miserable. I'm so grateful for Todd Miller, my new hubby, and for the unconditional love he has never ceased to give me.
I have great love and compassion for those with illnesses that they have to deal with daily. I have new family members who deal daily with things I can't even imagine. My niece Brooklyn is my ultimate hero. I love them all very much and I wish Brookie could understand how much of a hero she is to me, but she's only 3! She's a trooper!

Well, I must say I like having a blog to vent these things to. :) In the last 3 years I have improved drastically, but I still have a long way to go. Amazingly, I have someone by my side for the journey.

:)

Oh beautiful Zion...

I was thinking today about some of the fun things Todd and I have done, and this is one of them. :)

Awhile back, around valentines day i think, Todd's parents came down to St. George to visit us! While they were here, they wanted to go to Zion National Park! I have never been to Zions and i must say it was quite beautiful!

It was still winter(ish) time and so it was kinda cold but still a lot of fun! We went on the "Emerald Pools" hike. It wasn't very long or difficult but it was one of the muddiest hikes I have ever been on in my entire life! The best part was that my adorable husband was in flip flops. He has been mocked mercilessly by my mother for his frequent flip flop wearing and when she saw pictures of our hike she couldn't resist a laugh.

The hike was beautiful but I still have no idea why it is called "Emerald Pools" because I only saw one pool and a waterfall so the title is kinda deceiving.. but oh well ha ha. I loved Zions and I really want to go back soon! It so great living so close to such beautiful places!

I love being outdoors and so does Todd! We're going camping with my family in April and I'm so so excited!! Well, that's all for now! :)

Welcome Home Millers!

Sorry its taken so long to post again! I told you i wasn't very good at blogging. Life has been really crazy the last couple weeks and it seems like every time i would get on to update our blog, our internet would go out ha ha.

Well, as I'm sure most of you have guessed we're married now!! Woo hoo! The wedding was perfect and the reception was so much fun! I was so completely exhausted by the time the reception was over but we want to thank all who came to give us good wishes! :)

After the wedding, we spent the next week on the island of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. Let me tell you that island is BEAUTIFUL. I fell in love with the place! We stayed at Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort (such a great hotel) and I'd recommend to anyone going to St. Thomas to stay there! One thing to be aware of on St. Thomas are the iguanas. They are EVERYWHERE! I guess you don't really have to be "aware" of them because its not like they are ferocious beasts or anything. In fact they usually run away from you when you get too close, but they are all over the place! Todd desperately wanted to catch one and I just wanted to pet one. Sadly, our attempts at doing so failed. There is always next time though, right?

During our lovely stay we stopped at a local fruit stand. Todd wanted a green coconut to drink the milk from and I wanted some fresh mangoes. I have no idea how much mangoes cost normally but Todd says in Brazil they are 25 cents each. Well, this kind lady charges us $1.50 per mango. Tourists are charged more than the locals! We wanted to try to pass as locals by talking with "de island accent" but our skin color gave us away. So, we took our $1.50 mangoes and ate them happily anyway.

Oh and did i mention that they drive on the left side of the road there! Oh my goodness! It was CRAZY! Todd and I had no idea until we landed and were walking to the parking lot to get our rental car and some cars were driving towards us. We both stopped and Todd said, "Are they driving on the left?" and i responded, "uh.... i think so.." Neither of us were prepared for driving on the left! To add to the craziness, the roads there are narrow, windy, hilly (is that a word?) and there are blind corners, hidden driveways and iguanas. Sounds complicated? It was.

The beaches were beautiful and the weather was amazing! I couldn't have asked for a better honeymoon. There were great places to eat! Most of the time we stayed at the resort and ate at the restaurants there. We had many candle light dinners and pizza (ha ha).

Now we're home and we're starting to get our house organized! Our house is starting to feel like a home :) We figured out what stake and ward we are in and we're slowly starting to meet the people we live by. Pretty much, life is good! We're happy, healthy, and completely in love! :)

Until next time,
Au Voir

One more week!!

I made this blog because it seems like all the sister-in-laws have a blog. Maybe its a mandatory thing to do when you join the Miller family :) I don't know how good of a blogger I'm going to be but we'll give this a shot!
In a week, Todd and I will be married!! So exciting! Time has flown by so quickly! We have a townhouse that i am living in all by my lonesome until we're married! Its quite lovely but in dire need of decorations! Tonight the girls are throwing me a "Bachelorette Party" and they're kicking Todd out! As far as i know we're going to eat pizza, watch movies and tye-dye t-shirts! Oh, and eat chocolate! What more could a girl want?
